If you’re so fast, then be a real leader.

River racing is a whole lot of fun when things are working smoothly. River racing gets exciting when there are a few people off the front trying to make a break stick. However, River Racing becomes disgusting when one decides someone hasn’t been doing enough work at the front and begins to cuss them out for it.

Look, you aren’t that fast, if you were you would be a pro. You’re not, and never will be. So, when you come out to do the any day of the week River Race, remember that you are one of the many reindeer pulling Santa’s sled through the spandex fantasy that is the River Race. Maybe you can take a pull that is longer and a little harder than the others. Cool, you can have that. But that’s it.

All the Pros that participate or have participated on the local River Races have had one thing in common, and that is classy riding. When its time to go hard, it’s done in a way that it is smooth and without attack. If someone is not digging hard at the front, there is no cussing at that person. It is a time to go around that person and keep the speed up. If someone needs to move up, they are asked to move up rather than yelled at to move up. If someone is on the wrong side of the road trying to ride at the front, they are told which side to move to better the situation for the group. If there is need for a secondary echelon, then they get out in that wind and make sure it is possible for others to get on and follow. In the end they know that they have the juice to make any split that might occur. That confidence allows them the time to think and be thoughtful within the group. So, there is no need to ride any other way.

You continue to choose to ride without class. Telling people to take you to front is rude. Yelling at people to get out of your way is terrible. Calling people Pussy for taking a pull lesser than yours is appalling. Taking 30 second pulls so hard that no one has time to react is not an act of strength, but an egotistical attack on the group. Cussing people out in the group for not working enough before contesting the sprint is BS. When in fact you are spending a great deal of time riding 5th wheel. Getting upset with people for not doing the entire route and never inquiring why people stop to stretch is another form of ego masturbation. Finally, never complimenting riders for good work at the front is pure selfishness, especially if you were riding their wheel most of the ride.

If you want to see the River Race improve, then it starts with you. If you want to see the extinct second echelon rise from the ashes, then start the second echelon and call it out. You might not get a response the first time you try it, but then again this might be your first time trying to ride with class. So it might catch people by surprise. If the break is getting too far up the road, go to the front, make sure people are on your wheel, and ramp the pace up. Keep it smooth so people can feel what you are doing. Make it a classy move. If someone is sitting in too much, don’t worry about it. Let them. It’s not a real race. Would the ride be that much more enriching if they were not in that spot? If you get pissed about something let it go, or go to the front again. Cussing someone out does nothing for the group dynamic except make it roll along that much slower. You obviously came out to ride hard, so ride hard. Blaming people for your lack of motivation to go hard is quite juvenile. Don’t make this your time to punish us for some repressed and unresolved issues.

Ride with class. Don’t be and Ass.

Need place to live near Midtown?

Well, then look no further than Heinrich Property Management.  As, HPM will take the extra step in providing you, the customer, with nothing less than clean apartments, affordable rates, keen locations, and excellent customer service.

After living in two apartments owned and operated by HPM, I can personally atest to their never ending commit to customer satisfaction.  Maintenance calls are no problem, and are taken care either that day or with 24 hrs.  Apartments are thoughly cleaned, and inspected, and if need be repaired between tennant changes.  They are there for YOU all of the time.  During these tough economic times, customer service plays and even bigger part of stretching that dollar.

The HPM apartment buildings vary in style, size, and physical location.  Most of the apartment buildings are located in East Sac technically, but the buildings are close enough that one can still walk or bicycle to many restaurants, small boutique shops, coffee, local parks, grocery stores, pubs…the list goes on and on.  Since the buildings are in East Sac, after a long day at the grind and doing chores, it is easy to come home and enjoy a quiet and peaceful evening before heading off to bed.

Finally, the crew at HPM ride bikes. They really ride.  There are lots of discussion on touring events happening in that office.  It is not uncommon to see members of the office taking care of errands on their bikes as well.  Heck, we might even see a few people from HPM out at the cyclocross races this year.
