They flipped my stem!

As part of my ongoing knee issues related to bike riding, I went to get a bike fit over at the UCD sports medicine clinic. They have a Serotta size cycle which is like a bike on a trainer where all the dimensions can be manipulated. I basically got dressed in bike gear and pedaled away while the tech and a doctor watched my pedal stroke. Some of procedure seemed pretty pro, but the analysis was really subjective.

After a few adjustments, the result was that my seat needed to move up and back by about 1cm in both directions. Along with it, the bars needed to go up and back as well. The easy solution was of course to flip the threadless stem. Now that I’ve got the Viagra angled stem, I’m ready to roll on the bike trail.

Anyway, I’d recommend the bike fit! Here are the photos of the chart with the results of the fit and my hot new stem setup.

Haha. I’ve seen dozens of bikes come from UCD fit and they ALWAYS do the exact same thing. Short stem pointed up and increase the setback (the up and down on the saddle varies though). Hope it works out for you! Just think of all the weight your saving from cutting off that extra steerer tube and pointing your stem up! If only I wasn’t so vain I would go to Viagra mode….
