Tour of Tahoe
We camped out and partook in the Tour of Tahoe ride. Man, that is some tough riding. While the total elevation gain for the day is only on the order of 3,500 feet, that starting elevation is 6,300 feet. For those of us flat-landers from Sacramento that’s about 6,220 feet higher that we are used to riding at. Basically, it felt like self evoked suffocation until the completion of the first climb. Once the first climb was out of the way, the ride seemed to normalize. Thus, the funometer cranks way up on the reading scale. (Measured in gigglehertz)
Markus rode the entire 70 miles on his SS cross bike, 42×17 gearing, due to a catastrophic failure of his road bike fork. Paul graced the hills with ease. Robert dragged us along on the flats. Derek showed off his wooden dowel ingenuity. Katharyn, completed an abbreviated ride to the top of the emerald bay lookout. And, I, Jim suffered along until we had a cheeseburger at the halfway point.
