Who's on your podium?
I got A-Schleck and Basso on the podium with the accountant on the top step. But I'll be rooting for anyone other than Conty and Lance.

I'm gonna pull for Evans, Rogers and VdV. I do think your podium photo is very likely tho Paul.
AC on top, FS #2, and whoever doesn't get caught doping in 3rd. I would like to see Wiggo up there, but I'm not holding my breath. I think Lance has already given up, but his team might be able to get him a 3rd step.
i've really changed my mind on evans since last fall. he's shown some real grit and heart. but i think he's a better 1-day racer than grand tour contender. he missed his shot when he had horner as domestique in the mountains. hincapie can't help him there. but i'll be pulling for evans too.
Lance FTW! Probably wont happen but if it does it will be from smart racing and a team effort which ATMO makes for a good race.
I'd like to see Wiggo or A Schleck up there as well. I'm thinking it has the potential to be a good race this year.
Who's the accountant?
over/under for doping positives during tour: 2
over/under for climbs where levi and/or klodi have to wait for lance: 3
the accountant is contador!
what's up with the course this year? they really took the punch out of the alps, but the pyrenees should be epic! not sure how decisive those cobbled stages will turn out to be
BTW, as far as I can tell, Versus is only showing TDF on the HD version. I signed up for the HD channels on U-Verse and got a free month. I can ditch HD after the tour and pay nothing!
a schleck, armstrong, contadork in a pick 'em order. pulling for vDv and the argile army. also team lime green on the cdale's. will take the over for the +'s(bad drugies! but, if your not cheating your not trying). will take the under on team shack attack waiting for lance. farrar thor in green. voekler the little french man that could, in the dots (just like virenke). a shcleck in snowy white. roll on bastile day and new BEER "tm" kits
Probable (barring stage 3 massacre):
Contador on top
Either Schleck and/or Basso rounding it out.
In my ideal world (well, ideal is Cancellara reaches climbing nirvana and wins 9 stages along with yellow, but that's not happening... this year):
Order doesn't bother me but a podium consisting of any Schleck, Basso, Evans, and/or Menchov would get me off okay. I'd like to see Wiggins do well too.
With Haussler out, in green I'd be happiest to see Boassan Hagan. That kid is rad IMO and i think he has it in him. In the future I think he's the likeliest rider to pull an Eddy Merckx style all jerseys in Paris type move. Most likely this year it will probably be a Thor/Cav./Farrar battle though.
Polka Dots should be worn by Cunego as he's a great climber, the captain (along with Pettachi) of his team, and not really a threat on GC.
The revelation of the TDF will be in white (or Edvald or maybe Lovkist if he's still young enough). I think Schleck-the-younger is too old for the young rider contention this year.
I also disagree with Paul and think that while the race won't be won on stage 3, we will definitely have some people lose it on that stage. Riders will need to have strong and aggressive teams to not lose time on their rivals. Until then, I think all bets are off. Among the overall contenders, Armstrong's experience, team and physique might see him come out on top come Tuesday.
Heh, this is dragging.....
You heard it here fist.
good stuff guys.
interesting picks of voekler and cunego in the dots category! funny how the green and polka categories are so infrequently won by the best sprinter and climber, and more by dudes dedicating their race to those jerseys.
the cobbles are overrated in july! it's just a stage win at stake, and half the field will be just trying to protect their gc man, so we won't have the balls-out, get-me-in-the-break approach as in the 1 day classics.
it's gonna be a yawner until the pyrenees. maybe a contender loses a couple min, maybe a small split forms on a run in, but that's it. remember last year?
but i'm staying glued to the tv for the next 3 weeks regardless.
Contador FTW.
Aschlek 2nd.
Menchov 3rd.
Lance 4th. Unless Contador cannot complete the race before the mountains are over, the Lance FTW.
Wiggins 5th
Basso 6th
Levi 7th
Vandevelde 8th
Evans 9th
Horner in 13th
Tour de Crash more like it. Yeeesh!!!
Told ya, Paul! ...Though I guess it's not writ in stone.
wow, that was awesome! i stand corrected ... though most of the splits/gaps were caused by crashes and punctures.
lance needed to be in the front group. looks like he had a new front wheel after the carnage, but they didn't seem to mention a flat.
it would be awesome to see evans contest the classics!
also, i am a fan of thor, but it seems wrong to take the green jersey after sitting at the back of the breakaway. esp since he was whining about cancellara yesterday, and probably wouldn't have green today without him!
bummed for Ryder - he really worked those cobbles and then some sprinter just coasts in and punches it at the end. Guess that's racin' tho.
I got up early and watched this stage live.... Thor helped initiate that break and was the only sprinter in there so I think he deserved it. At one point, Fabian gapped the entire break (a la Paris Roubaix) but then soft pedalled a bit to get everyone (ie. Andy) back on. My guess is he was going to go FTW until he heard Chavanel was out of yellow contention. He then sat up so he could try and squeeze a few more seconds out of the GC guys for Andy and have yellow again as a consolation. In the end, I think everyone who finished in the front could be happy with their day: Ryder got good airtime for his sponsor, 3 of the guys came out of it with jerseys, and the two serious GC guys got ~40 seconds on their rivals. Conty may be the biggest winner of the day though.
I never said it wasn't going to be crashes and punctures that caused the splits, most every year on the cobbles someone loses in the face of luck alone....
Saxo losing Frank sucks.
Also, Cadel has really manned up, he's the only non-Swiss guy who hit the front of that break and drove it hard.
Oh, and I stand corrected from before: A. Schleck==young rider
Missed the first part of the day and Thor's contributions - but still like taking candy from a baby... Evans is riding more and talking less and the stripes have given him wings.
I thought today was pretty exciting considering there wasn't much of a shake up on GC (except Lance). Maybe they'll stop touting the LA vs AC matchup now.
Jim's pick of Menchov on the podium is looking good and Gesink was impressive at the end. Hesjedal is continuing the trend of unlikely Garmins in the top 10. And gotta love those Schleck victory salutes!
Headbutt!
crazy stage today! menchov looks strong, and hesjedal is hanging in there!
Don't see close-ups with or w/o a chain-keeper. Suspect it may be installed tonight:

I hope everybody will wait for me if my chain falls off, I get a flat, or my engine breaks! It's only fair right?
Exactly. Is a guy supposed to check his opponents for mechanicals and crashes after every time he drops them?
Gotta be a rough day at the offices of SRAM. Schleck finally makes a move and his gear is busted at that very moment.
I'm not saying Contador was WRONG to stand up and attack only to put Sanchez (peloton's fastest descender?) on the front once it went downhill, but in my mind the RIGHT thing would have been to keep it up at tempo as opposed to the hammering that ensued.
He probably would have won the race anyways, but I don't think that after today he'll win with style or class. I'm also not saying anyone else would have shown any better sportsmanship.
I think it's ridiculous to claim he didn't know what was going on though. At least for more than 10 seconds. Hopefully It will just mean fun watching and that tomorrow and Thursday will be Andy Schleck attack-fests.
No claim here that he didn't know, just saying it's not practical for the attacker to check that every droppee(?) is getting dropped because of fitness only and drop back to them if not.
Totally agree that the classy thing would have been to wait in this case, especially since yesterday they both established that it's a two man race with that trackstand business!
I'm glad I'm not that team mechanic. Aschleck and Alberto essentially have the same rides - right?
not sram cranks. and i think mostly rider error. contedork has proven many times over he won't wait and will attack his own team. just ask vino.
I was really stoked to see Vino get the stage win the day after AC robbed him of it and gave it to Rodriguez. AC is definitely focused on winning the tour and has no regard for anything else (which is probably what it takes... learned from Lancey-poo?).
Anti-climax.
The queen stage has a total of 2 attacks by the main guys and a deal made for the stage win with several K left to climb. Weak.
At least Hesj and Horner did well.
Jim, what powerball numbers should I buy on Tuesday afternoon ftw?
